ANGA COM 2019 report: Post-show demographics & hot topics.

This short post-show report aims to provide the key facts and figures from ANGA COM 2019.

What is the ANGA COM Show?

The ANGA COM show, a 3-day event taking place every year at the start of June in Cologne is Europe’s leading business platform for broadband, cable and satellite operators and audio-visual content providers. It is organised by ANGA Services, a subsidiary of the ANGA Association of German Cable Broadcasters. This association represents over 200 companies in the German broadband industry.

What are the key demographics of the ANGA COM Show 2019?

At the time of writing, the official figures for ANGACOM19 were not yet fully released, but we know that during the 2018 show we saw 21,700 attendees from 78 different countries and 500 exhibitors from 37 countries. Nearly half of those attending were international attendees.

During the 2019 show, they announced 500 exhibitors from 35 countries, so we expect the final figures to be in the same ballpark.

The conference itself attracted 2300 participants in 2018, listening to 170+ expert speakers and 34 panels, with many top telco decision makers appreciating the exchanges with other panellists.

In 2019 we saw a slight increase to 36 panel events throughout the show.

ANGA COM is an excellent meeting place for broadband and content providers. The new concept with the extended conference programme encourages rousing discussions among top-class panellists. It‘s great fun to exchange constructively.

What were the main topics and news discussed at the show this year?

For us, this year’s stand out hot topics were 5G, smart city & smart homes, IoT, app, OTT & cloud TV.

Naturally, 5G discussions & the implications for the broadband market and changing strategies with the increase in streaming services were the most discussed areas.

The highlights of the 3-day event were 4 summit discussions, centring on the following areas:

The International Content Summit: this C-Level panel dealt with the hot topic of content strategies for broadband networks, satellite and OTT providers. Competition from the growing penetration of the OTT sector in TV & content distribution plus the need to diversify offerings in relation to OTT and IPTV services was also discussed by the network operators.

The International CTO Summit: another C-Level panel brought together heavy weight players from Liberty Global, TDC, Sunrise, Tele2, Vodafone, ARRIS and WILHELM SIHN.

The Broadband Summit: On the topic of the fibre roll-out we saw the board members & Managing Directors for such telco giants as Vodafone, Deutsche Telekom, Tele Columbus, NetCologne, EWE TEL and Deutsche Glasfaser coming together to give their opinions and entering into debates about the progress of the industry to roll out fibre in recent years.

The Media Summit: this summit examined the game-changing streaming services that have disrupted the market in recent years.

What was the atmosphere like this year?

The warm summer days hit Cologne this year and at ANGA COM we could feel it in the relaxed atmosphere & outdoor networking that was taking place this year! An open-air plaza enticed lots of people outside to pay a visit to the food trucks and get a breath of fresh air by the trees.

The relaxed yet professional atmosphere of the show continued inside, with many stalls taking advantage of the German location to offer some quality German Kraft beers and networking happy hours from 5pm onwards.
